I’ve just realised that the words “Honoured to be…” prefixing a social media post can be replaced by the words “I want you to know that I’m…” and they become more accurate.
Go on, try it..
“Honoured to be named as one of the top 100 global experts on widgets” becomes “I want you to know that I’ve been named as one of the top 100 global experts on widgets”.
“Honoured to be one of the mentors for the new young entrepreneur program” = “I want you to know I’m one of the mentors…”.
“Honoured by all the wonderful feedback my new book has had” = “I want you to know about all the wonderful feedback my new book has had”.
Super accurate.

  1. An alternative translation is that “I was programmed when young not to blow my own trumpet or show off and although the world has changed my programming hasn’t…”

    1. This is true too. Perhaps there’s a parenthetical (I hope nobody notices me blowing my own trumpet but someone’s got to do it) at the ned of the sentence.
